Homemade Apple Pie

Hey there my dears, Hope you all doing well. I'm good.

Yesterday I made a very peculiar dish which I've never tried or eaten before ever. As mentioned in the title, it's an Apple Pie. Since I'm an Indian especially a South Indian we haven't got used to all the American dishes.

I'm always fond of continental cuisine where I can learn a lot about various cooking methods and the science behind it. Apple Pie has different making procedure which really made me to come out of my comfort zone and make it happen.

And today is my best friend's Birthday and I'm gonna make a special dish for him. That recipe will be posted by tonight. Okay let's get back to business.

Ingredients Needed For the Crust

  • All purpose flour/Maida - 3 Cups
  • Sugar - ¼ Cup
  • Butter - 1 Cup frozen cubes
  • Salt - ¼ tsp
  • Ice Water - ¼ Cup or 15ml
Pie Crust Preparation Method
  • Mix all the above mentioned ingredients one by one into a blender.
  • Take the mixture out of the blender and then knead it to a dough.
  • Cover it with a plastic wrap and refrigerate it for an hour.
In the mean while lets prepare our pie filling.

Ingredients Needed for the Filling
  • Gala Apples/ Honey Crisp Apples - 3nos
  • Sugar - 3tbsp
  • Butter - ¼ Cup
  • Lemon Juice - 2tbsp
  • Lemon Zest - ½ tsp
  • Cinnamon Powder - 1tsp
  • Nutmeg - ½
  • Corn Starch - 1tbsp

Pie Filling Preparation Method
  • Peel and chop the apples into a bowl add sugar and toss it.
  • Now add lemon juice to it.
  • Add Butter to the pan, once it is melted add the apple mixture.
  • The apples will leave a lot of juices that can be reduced to a caramel at the end.
  • Add the cinnamon powder and give it a mix.
  • Now add the lemon zest and half grated nutmeg.
  • Close and cook for 8 minutes.
  • Then add corn starch to it and mix it without lumps.
  • Strain the apples and keep it aside then reduce the juices by heating it in the same pan.
  • Once it is caramelized, pour it to the apples.
  • Let it cool down for a bit.

Arrangements
  • Take the dough from the fridge and let it cool down to the room temperature.
  • Roll the dough to make a bottom crust.
  • Place it on the pie pan and cut down the excess dough on the edges.
  • Now roll out the remaining dough and cut them into long strips.
  • Add the pie filling to the pie pan and arrange the strips as you wish.
  • Now break an egg then add a spoon of milk and whisk it.
  • Brush the egg wash on to the strips.
Lets Bake It with and without Oven
  • With the oven in your home bake it under 180 degrees for about half hour.
  • If there's no oven, take a wide cookware, add a bed of rock salt to it.
  • Preheat it for 6-8 minutes then keep a stand over the salt bed and then place the Pie Pan.
  • Close and bake it for 30 minutes in medium high heat.

Kaboom!
There you go, Your perfectly homemade Apple Pie is ready.
Serve it with a scoop of ice cream.

Bon Appètit!
